The Wheel of Fortune
“What goes up, must go down! Spinning Wheel got to go round!” When the wheel of fortune appears you know that the fates are at work. This card depicts the Moirai, also known as the Three Fates. The Moirai are the three goddesses Maiden, Mother and Crone who spin the fabric of our lives. They represent the phases of our life that we all must move through. The four figures on the wheel show us that continuing cycle of rising to the top and falling to the bottom, whether this be in our daily lives or in the grander picture of birth, life, death and rebirth.
This card recognizes that although we are the masters of our own choices, and those choices determine the path of experience we create for ourselves, we are also still at the mercy of the laws of nature. What goes up, must come down and vice versa, the great wheel of life will turn no matter what we do and we are all subject to its rotation.
When this card appears you want to keep in mind that these greater forces of nature are at work. What appears to be chance events are actually part of the greater plan and we just don’t yet have the perspective to see it. If you’ve been struggling with a problem hang in there, (like the little man on the bottom) the wheel will eventually turn and you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. See the mouth of the cave? It’s nice and bright out there! Once this card appears, you’re going to feel like life is speeding up, hang on tight!
